Aloha Maui!

Warm sun, and soft sands were a welcome relief for 2 weeks in February. The winter had already been quite long so this was one trip we were really looking forward too.
We spent 5 full days on Maui, in Wailea at "The Palms". Then we took an adventurous flight in a 9 seat plane over to the big island, Hawaii. And, that is another post!

Lunch on the lani.
Max relaxing after a good exploration of the grounds.

While staying in this area of Maui, the southerly part, we spent most days at nearby beaches. The two we frequented the most were Big Beach, and one just near us, Keawakapu beach. The kids can spend hours playing in the sand and the surf. We all really enjoyed boogie boarding. The kids got quite good at "catching a wave".
Chris got in on the action too!
Big Beach, is just that, BIG. The surf is big, and the beach is big - full of beautiful golden sand.
A little secret about this beach is that there is pathway that leads to "little beach". I had read in a guide book that there can be nudists there - this was briefly mentioned, in brackets, which I took for extremely minimal nudists! However, it is VERY POPULAR with nudists. We thought one morning we would hike up and over to little beach and spend the morning there.  Here we are on that trek.

As we stepped down on to the beach, we soon were well aware that not only were we the only family, but the only family with clothes on! We smiled, glanced around with our eyes at the horizon and quickly decided we would "casually" sauntered back...  It was a good laugh for us!

We did spend a lot of days at the above beach which was so close. The beaches never seemed busy too, which was lovely. This beach, Kaewakapu, had parking but not a lot. However, there was a Port-a- Potty and an outdoor shower right off the beach. I like getting off all that sand before getting in a car!

A great place to also spend a day is La Perouse Bay.  It is the site of Maui's most recent volcanic activity. There are great little beaches tucked in between the lava flows. Then just down the road, there is a great snorkeling spot for families. It is sheltered enough that it makes for fabulous snorkeling.

While we were in Waliea, we met up with friends on the beach for a Hawaiian play date! It was a very fun day for everyone!

Maui is a lush and beautiful island. It has all the amenidities of "home". It is also an easy place to travel with kids. On our last trip we did venture up in Kaanapali area plus toured a bit of the "road to Hana". It certainly will be a spot we travel too again in the future.
